A Few Caveats
This may be a free and awesome method, but there are a few caveats you have to consider if you do choose to follow this tutorial.
You have to visit TVUnblock.com every time your IP address changes.
Some people have static IP addresses, so this shouldn’t be a problem for them. If you don’t know whether you have a static IP address or not, you’re most likely on a dynamic address. The IP address change can happen frequently, or on a daily basis, it depends on your ISP and how often you turn on and off your router. This is done because TVUnblock.com has to whitelist your IP address in order to allow you to use their DNS servers. Also, your IP address is whitelisted for only 30 days. You have to visit their site again regardless if your IP address changed or not after that.
If you’re willing, TVUnblock.com does accept donations. Donating grants you the feature to register up to 3 IP addresses that never expire, which means you don’t have to visit every 30 days. It also lets you use dynamic hostnames, if you’re using one.
You go down when they do.
In the unlikely event their DNS servers go down, you won’t be able to access any website. That’s a serious thing to consider. It’s easy to remedy the problem however when this occurs. Simply remove their DNS servers, and you should be good to go. 😉
If you’ve been researching about my method, by now you should already be aware of similar paid services. The advantage of these paid services is that they offer more “channels”, not just limited to US. Some more popular ones are:
If you’d like to search for more, simply Google “SmartDNS”.
